The Metallurgical Industrialization Development Acceleration and Studies (MIDAS) Project is un paralleled in rural Canada. The MIDAS Fab Lab is a 9,000 sq. ft. MIT Certified applied research, commercialization and digital fabrication training facility in Trail, B.C. MIDAS makes recent advances in manufacturing technology (equipment value $4000,000) accessible to West Kootenay companies, entrepreneurs and students. The project is demonstrating success on all of its KPIs and is gaining excellent traction.

MIDAS is an economic development program with a number of community impacts such as workforce development, local business support through new technology adoption, strategic partnerships to leverage local capacity, attraction and retention.

The project is an outstanding example of regional collaboration with funding and support from numerous local partners in addition to provincial & federal funding (1.9 million). MIDAS is also central to the new regional $500k Metal Tech Alley initiative.
