The BC Community Climate Funding Guide (the Funding Guide) was created to simplify the search for climate action funding by quickly connecting Indigenous communities, local governments, and community economic development officials to the next opportunity to fund their community projects. It's a one-stop resource to find the best funding programs available to support community projects that increase sustainable energy use and prepare for a changing climate. The Funding Guide provides detailed search capability, tools and resources, and a place to quickly check for upcoming funding application deadlines. The funding programs listed on the Funding Guide are broadly in the category of climate action which includes sustainable transportation, clean energy, climate preparedness and adaptation, and community infrastructure.
Since its launch in July 2021, the BC Community Climate Funding Guide for Indigenous communities and local governments has been well received and is providing value to communities to assist with locating funding for climate action projects. In the last year alone, the Funding Guide has been viewed almost 25,000 times and seen over 8800 sessions (a metric that tracks a user's presence and actions performed on a website, which may include multiple page views, events, etc.) by over 4000 people from across B.C. The Funding Guide has seen noticeable growth in February 2023, with 1128 sessions alone.
This project is administered by the Province of B.C. and supports all communities across the province. Ontario has shown interest in replicating the Funding Guide and B.C. will meet with them to share lessons learned.
