Forest Industry Attraction, Training & Retention Strategy

Regional District of Mount Waddington

2017

The North Island Forest Industry Attraction, Training and Retention Strategy is a partnership of local governments, First Nations, forestry companies and local educators to use education as an economic development tool while addressing a serious skills shortage in one of the region’s strategic industry sectors. The project has two primary components:
– An attraction plan to attract potential forest workers as well as professionals, other skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and their families. The Attraction Plan will directly support communities with a web site, collateral, social media and other tools targeted at specific audiences to attract them to and retain them in the region.
– A training program for new labour force entrants and existing skilled workers in the region with an initial focus on introductory skills and best workplace practices with an emphasis on safety and teamwork.
