Huuayaht First Nation
2018
Bamfield is a small town/village on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Huuayaht is a singatory of the Manuulth Treaty signed in 2011. Huuayaht believes a strong component to our treaty is building a strong economy within Huuayaht Traditional Territory.
Forestry and Fisheries has been a big part of the Huuayaht economy and we wanted to increase our presence in other industries more specifically within tourism.
The project was an acquisition of 11 properties within the Bamfiled area, this included 4 turnkey businesses 1)a motel with a pub 2) a fishing lodge with moorage and marine fuel with a slip for float planes 3) a fishing lodge with moorage, marine fuel and large dock that once was a fish processing plant. 4) an airport.
Huuayaht also owns the general store, a restaurant, a campground and gas bar. Huuayaht is also building a business that offers tours showcasing our culture and showcasing Kiixin our Huuayaht capital. With all these businesses together Huuayaht is the largest contributor to the local economy.
